~ Model 1917 WW1 6th Marine Regiment American Doughboy Helmet ~ A WW1 Model 1917 doughboy helmet, belonging to the 6th Marine Regiment who helped finalise the outcome of WW1. ~ Dimensions ~ The diameter (excluding rim) measures 8 inches (20.25cm), whilst the diameter to rim measures 11.5 inches (29.25cm). The helmet has a height of 5.5 inches (14cm). It weighs 1Kg. ~ Condition ~ The helmet has the expected age wear, though is in a good condition for a 95 year old helmet as it is still intact and the decal is still complete and visible though slightly faded. The leather inner lining, although worn, remains in a good condition. The leather chinstrap is cracked. ~ The 6th Marine Regiment ~ The 6th Marine Regiment is an infantry regiment of the United States Marine Corps based at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. The regiment falls under the command of the 2nd Marine Division of the II Marine Expeditionary Force. The 6th Marines combat history dates back to World War I when they were part of the American Expeditionary Force. They fought in the Pacific Theater in World War II most notably at the battles of Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa.
