Some are stylistically similar to the Scandinavian modernists, others are older, more decorative pieces. Several are from the famous Polish studio co-operative ORNO, operating in Warsaw in the 1960s-70s. Smooth and elegant curves on this large brooch, suggesting an abstract leaf or petal. It has a dimensional quality, with the two sides sloping gently down from a raised central ridge. The curve is accented by two applied stems? Stamens? At one end. The brooch measures 3 inches from point to point, and 1 inch across.Although large, it is light to wear, and probably hollow. It fastens with a long pin and enclosed rectangular catch. The hallmarks are on the fastening pin, and some of them are partial because of the small surface area. The Warsaw mark is post-1963, for 925 sterling silver.
