The essay on Mogens Ballin in the Brohan Museum's catalogue, "Modern Art Of Metalwork, State Musueum of Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Functionalism (1889-1939), Berlin," has this to say abou Mogens Ballin's place in the history of modern Danish design: "Mogens Ballin's metal workshop was widely recognized, especially in Germany after the 'Nordic Art Exhibition," organized in Krefeld in 1902 by Friedrich Deneken, director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum. Mogens Ballin can be regardes as one of the founder personalities of modern Danish metalwork, for he elevated the status of the baser metals in the arts and crafts, above all for pewter, and thus significantly influenced the country's second greatest pewterer in this early period, Just Andersen." A very simple design, the vase is typical of Ballin's work. The production year for this piece was 1919, five years after Ballin's untimely death. The vase measures Four & One-Quarter [ 4.25 ] inches in height. Or about 11.00 Cms. Its mouth is Five & Three-Quarters [ 5.75 ] inches in diameter. Or, 13.50 Cms.
