Absolutely stunning shallow bowl from the much acclaimed and prestigious Scottish factory of Monart in the city of Perth, Scotland, in magical shades of azure, duck egg blue and cornflower blue with an amazing mass of silver and gold aventurine particle inclusions. The shallow bowl starts with a large flat outer circular polished band to which the piece rests . A central circular polished pontil is surrounded by a shallow highly polished sunken moat. The factory was founded in1865 by John Moncrieff forming John Moncrieff Ltd which produced Monart glass made between the years 1924 - 39 by Salvador Ysart and his family. The tradename Monart is a derivative of both MONcrieff and ysART. Paul Ysart continued the business from 1947-61 whereas I date this piece to the early to mid thirties but with all the Scottish glass experts out there - it may well be earlier. The piece was owned by my grandmother and I do seem to remember a whole set or at least many more pieces including a larger fruit or dessert bowl.
