The "guts" part (or stupidity, as some would claim) of this sale is thatI am offering several old paintings by well documented artists,with no reserves and just .77 opening bids. The "glory" part of this sale is that the winning bidders will not onlyhave acquired a painting, but also a piece of history paintedby some of America's important, deceased artists.Furthermore, all of the paintings are 100% guaranteed, as described! This painting was originally purchased from a major auction house. During the beginning of the 20th century, The Gruppe School (founded by Emile Albert Gruppe (1896-1978) located at Gloucester, Massachusetts), trained a lot of great artists, including Francis Clark (Townley) Brown.Having seen another one of Brown's harbor paintings (Brunk's lot 625, 4/10/04), I feel there are many striking similarities, including the color palette, technique and horizon lines. If you have a chance to view Brunk's painting, I'll let you decide which painting you prefer.
