This auction is for 99 pages of a Montana Prisoners Petition to the Governor for Pardon in 1901. The Petitioner was one Sylvester Gerva Gibson a Cowboy, turned miner, lived in the Gilt Edge, Fergus County Montana area and was convicted for a shooting involving Gambler Oscar Patrick. Gibson shot at Patrick with a .45 Colt Revolver in Dick Jones' saloon (owned by witness R.W. Jones), was arrested by the local Deputy Sheriff Edmund Martin and placed in the Gilt Edge Jail, the same Jail that was to be frequented by one Calamity Jane around the same period.During 1900-1901 Gilt Edge was considered one of the best towns in the country. Gilt Edge reached its peak between 1908 and 1909 but is currently one of Montana's most infamous Ghost Towns. This is a great set of documents and provides information as to business's and residents of early Guilt Edge Montana. You know what you are reading is the truth because . . . .each of the witnesses were sworn to tell the truth!!
