Great Monterey Jade glaze. Marked on the bottom: "MONTEREY, V-4, JADE, "Another ( California )pottery with an enigmatic history is the Monterey Pottery. What has been revealed is that t were two phases of the business. The first phase began about 1948, when a small pottery was established in the idyllic Carmel Valley. Evidently only the early ware was signed Monterey Pottery. Vases and bowls with a variegated glase simulating the veining seen in semi-precious jade were produced. It's uncertain whether Monterey Jade was ever used to mark the product at this time. Sometime in the 1950s, Rudi and Nanci Marzi bought the business and the Monterey Jade trademark began to be used (more frequently?) to market the line. Artware, including bowls, cases, figurines, and other novelties were produced and were marketed as souvenirs of Carmel by the Sea and Monterey, longstanding tourist destinations."....
