Collectors are aware that Marco Biagini is among the most skillful artisan pipe makers on the planet, and smokers who are familiar with Marco's Moretti pipes agree that they literally smoke themselves. The artistry, craftsmanship, and engineering that Marco brings to bear on his pipes have elevated them to a cult status among US pipe smokers who are familiar with Moretti pipes. One of the better known eBay pipe merchants owns 30 Morettis and has never been willing to offer one for sale. This is a spectacular long shank freehand made from an incredible piece of tiger stripped briar. The vertical straight grain surrounds the bowl and is mirrored on both sides of the shank. The birdseye on the bottom of the bowl and top and bottom of the shank has a three dimensional character. I am the original owner of this pipe, which would be a group 4 by Marco's current grading system. The bowl capacity is about that of a group 4 Dunhill. The shank is stamped Moretti Recanati. Issues: like most Morettis, this pipe has a couple of very small sand spots which in no way detract from the beauty of this masterpiece. T is minor darkening of the beveled rim, which is as sharp as the day the bowl was carved. T are also faint tooth scratches on the Lucite stem, which can be easily buffed if you so desire.
