The "MINTON ETCH & GOLD ENCRUSTATION" was applied by MORGANTOWN/ECONOMY GLASS from the 1920's - 1960's. The name of this company was changed several times over the years - from 1903-1929 it was known as the ECONOMY GLASS COMPANY, and, tafter, as MORGANTOWN GLASS WORKS, followed by MORGANTOWN GLASS GUILD. A word regarding the MINTON etch with gold band. At one time, it was thought that once this etch was spotted on a piece of glassware, that the item had to have been manufactured by TIFFIN GLASSMASTERS in Ohio. However, with new information being published, t is no doubt that, in addition to the THREE TIFFIN Minton Versions, WHEELING DECORATING(2 versions, dubbed "swirls, arrows & flowers"), LOTUS/GLASTONBURY DECORATING(named "improved minton"), MORGANTOWN/ECONOMY GLASS(called "border decoration#25"), and, FOSTORIA(called "regent") produced variations of this etch/decoration. The important point about the WHEELING & LOTUS Minton variants, is that they did not manufacture their own glass but, puchased blanks from various glassmakers, and, as such, their versions could appear on glassware made by many other elegant glassware makers, including Tiffin and Morgantown.
