An exceptional early (circa 18 30) Moses B. Russell portrait miniature. The beautiful young woman wear s an indigo dress, pink ribbon in her hair and star earring. The work is signed on verso "By Moses B Russell." The sitter is identified on the frame backing as Rebecca Atwood Austin Ayers, the previous owner has added this information. The portrait was formerly in the Dr. Emerson Greenway Collection. I believe Dr. Greenway was the Director of the Free Library of Philadelphia. A similar Moses Russell sold earlier this year at Christies for $6,000. The only other similar example I can find was once apart of the Elie Nadelman collection and is now in the New York Historical Society. These early Russell's rarely come available for sale. The portrait is in complete original condition and is housed in the original frame and matting. The paper is not laid down but is attached on one edge. There is what appears to be minor paint loss in the lower left of the dress. Overall the work is in excellent original untouched condition. The frame measures 5 1/2" x 6 1/4". Payment must be received within 3 days. US UPS shipping is free .Sorry, no overseas shipping on this item.
