Born in an era when fast food restaurants had not yet grabbed America's dining dollar and the convenience of not having to leave your car. The original Mel's opened in San Francisco. The original Mel's was the backdrop for the 1973 George Lucas film, American Graffiti. After filming was done, the building was destroyed. MTH features a replica of the Universal Studios Mel's which has roller skate-clad carhops and even a '57 Chevy that pulls up to the restaurant and brings back memories.
