VERY RARE MUSEUM QUALITY 1/6 PLATE MIRRORED DEGUERROTYPE + UNION CASEThis is a Very Rare, museum quality 1/6 plate Deguerrotype in an equally rare and fantastic S. Peck & Co. Union Case. The young girl (teenager?) in this astonishing portrait has the delicate, soft and warm countenance of the most angelic face. And yet her astonishing face reveals a hesitancy, a wistfulness, a dreaminess, a vague melancholy that almost seems inappropriate when confronted with her magnificently beautiful persona. Once you have seen this face it will haunt you for a long time! The hand tinted face is stunning in its very subtle shading, the photographer was a master tinter. Additionally, whoever commissioned this portrait, they obviously spared no expense to find the best photographer of the day! This gorgeous deguerrotype is in excellent, near perfect museum quality (99%) condition. The 1/6 th plate was polished to a perfect mirror condition to the point that making photos of this image was very difficult due to all the reflections! About a year ago the plate was professionally rinsed and resealed. The mat would indicate that it was made in the 1850's. The Peck Union case is close to flawless, it looks new and is of the highest museum quality just like the daguerreotype . Deguerrotypes of this quality sell at auction in NYC at four figure price if read more
