Here is an Eadweard J. Muybridge Albumen Stereoview Card photographed in 1871. He was born in1830 in England and lived to1904 and emigrated to the United States in the 1850s to become one of the most Inflential + Famous Photographers of all time. In 1871 the Lighthouse Board contracted with Muybridge to photograph the lighthouses on the Pacific West Coast. From March to July Muybridge traveled on the Lighthouse Tender Shubrick [ U.S. Steamer Shubrick ] photographing the Pacific West Coast Lighthouses for the sum of $20.00 a day. [ These are the photographs taken on this trip ] The side Wheel U. S. Steamer Shubrick was the first Lighthouse Tender on the Pacific West Coast. This vessel was constructed in 1857 and served as a supply ship, buoy tender, and Revenue Cutter for 29 years. The 140 foot long Ship was named for the first Chairman of the Lighthouse Board, Commodore William Bradford Shubrick. All cards have Studio mark and information on back, and have normal age wear.
