Comments: One of the best books of nude photo art I have ever seen, “Ema Nude in Africa” is often cited as one of the most important Japanese photo books of all time. I believe it was featured in both Parr/Badger History of the Photobook and Bertolotti Books of Nudes. This import photo book was never published outside of Japan. NAKAMURA Masaya Biography - (1926.3.29-2001.6.6) Born Yokohama. Photographer of women, best known for nudes. EDUCATION: Studied photography at Tokyo Fine Arts High School and photochemistry at Chiba University. CAREER: Served in the Japanese Army, 1942-46. Later became a press photographer for Yomiuri Shimbun for 6 months, then worked as a photographer for movie magazine publisher Eiga Sekaisha while working under HAYATA Yuji. Turned freelance in 1952. Portraiture, fashion, and women were his main subjects, mainly for magazines such as Chuo Koron and Fujin Gaho. Best known as a glamour photographer from 1956.
