A Brief Narrative of the Progress of the Gospel Among the Indians of New England. 1670 . By Rev. John Eliot, with introductory notes by W. T. R. Marvin. Boston: John K. Wiggin & Wm. Parsons Lunt, 1868.Limited edition, number 15 of 20 large paper copies, signed by Marin on the limitation page. (The small paper edition was limited to 150.) Half morocco over marbled paper-covered boards with marbled endpapers. 36 pp. Illustrated with frontispiece portrait of Eliot. Eliot was a Puritan missionary who worked to convert the various tribes in what is now Massachusetts, translating the bible into the Massachusett language. According to Marvin's introduction, this work was believed to be the last on this subject that Eliot had printed. Marvin was unsure if any copies of the original pamphlet existed in the United States, and thus sought to have this reproduction printed.Front cover detached.
