The following two cacheted air mail covers having Santa Barbara, California postmarks are included in this auction lot: 1. N ational Air Mail Week (NAMW) Cover, two cachets: At left is a May 15-21, 1938 Santa Barbara NAMW cachet showing a pioneer plane and print stating "First Plane To Carry Air Mail Piloted By Earle Ovington", and below an image of the Old Mission in 1786; at center is a magenta cachet showing the same pioneer plane with print stating "Earle Ovington Santa Barbara, Cal First US Air Mail Pilot Flying Since 1911". The C23 stamp is postmarked Santa Barbara, California, May 16, 1938. Condition is very good, slit opened at the top. 2. First Flight Cover, Postmaster signed, Santa Barbara first flight cachet showing the Old Franciscan Mission and commemorating its sesquicentennial. The C19 stamp is postmarked Santa Barbara, California, November 1, 1936. Condition is fine, hint of corner and edge wear, unopened, card stock content.
