If you're interested, please make us an offer - every one will be carefully considered! You are bidding on a unique, antique Washington DC capitol Transit vellum roll sign section. THIS IS ONE PANEL OF THE SIGN. The whole destination roll was many of these panels stitched together. The story of street rail in Washington closely mirrors that of other large cities in the United States. It started as many independent firms operating many short lines. In the interest of cohesion, the lines were consolidated under one firm after many years of various receiverships and bankruptcies. After World War II, municipal ownership was the word of the day. The individual investors of National City (Chevron Oil, Firestone Tires, General Motors, et al) were convicted of conspiracy to create a monopoly to sell buses and related articles to municipal transit agencies it owned. However, the conviction did not stop the cancellation of urban rail service across the country. The last Los Angeles Railway trolley operated in 1962. This section measures 25.5 inches wide by 42 inches long. The readings on this sign are as follows: NAVY YARD 14TH & COLORADO VIA 11TH 14TH & COLORADO S W MALL 14TH & DECATUR 14TH & DECATUR VIA 11TH BUR ENGRAVING This sign is in good (6/10) condition. This sign would be great for bar or restaurant decoration, dorm room, den, etc. read more
