HAND MADE NATIVE AMERICAN PIPE The Peace Pipe, Chanupa, Calumet, Sacred Pipe, It has many names. Given to the American Native people by Buffalo Calf Woman to honor all that is sacred in the heavens and Mother Earth. The Pipe is a powerful icon which represents the very spirit of Native America and its people. Often labeled as "Peace Pipe" by the white man, this term is not fully accurate since the pipe was sometimes smoked before battle in prayer for victory. The term "Peace pipe" is believed to originate from the early white traders and mountain men who traded iron and glass goods for furs and clothing with Indian tribesmen. The Pipe was smoked between the traders in a gesture of peace, friendship and honesty. To cheat or lie in the presence of the Pipe was a great sacrelige to the native people and would result in harsh repromand from the spirits. In the early 1800s, white mountain men began crafting and carrying their own "Trade Pipes" to signify their good trade standing with the native Americans. This pipe is 25" long with a 2 1/2" high bowl. The bowl is handcarved from marbled pipestone (steatite) and wax polished to a smooth finish. The stem is oiled sumac. It is drilled through, not laminated. Never smoked but guaranteed to smoke well. Made in the Native Spirit. Bowl is signed by Lone Wolf. I believe an auction is an auction read more
