Silver Wires with Rhodochrosite and Quartz Uchucchacua Mine, Lima Dept., PeruEx. Scofield #ag88Hello and Welcome! Here is a very Nice Wire Silver specimen from the famous Uchucchacua Mine in Peru. The specimen measures 7.2 x 4.6 x 4.5 cm , and contains an attractive outcrop of wire silver that is nested within a vug in a matrix of rhodochrosite and quartz. The silver has an antiqued patina whose color balances very nicely with the pink rhodochrosite. In addition to the silver, there are numerous crystals of a highly reflective prismatic monoclinic mineral scattered throughout the quartz-rhodochrosite matrix. These crystals are best developed near the wire silver, where they have parallel striations across their diamond-shaped terminations (possibly arsenopyrite?).
