This mesmerizing masterpiece is from the NAVAJO RESERVATION, a RED MESA area (perhaps Ganado) CLASSIC FLOOR RUNNER made from hand spun wool, hand woven on a primitive upright loom. As you can see from the pictures this is a complex and beautiful weaving with many stylistic elements integrated into the pattern. The large serrated diamonds, the rows of smaller parallel crosses and the deep red color are all classic Navajo Red Mesa and Ganado design elements which go back to even earlier weavings. The outline colors/shades indicates this is most likely a Red Mesa Outline Weaving. A thinner and more refined textile which will look great in you home, cabin or work shed.The size of this rug is approximately 77" X 38", with a warp of 10 and a weft of 24, a very well woven piece, with 100% wool warp and weft. The colors of grey, beige, white, and dark brown to black are all hand spun and hand carded natural sheep's wool colors. The red is hand spun wool, hand dyed with the most likely with the old aniline red dye obtained from the Trading Posts and commonly used for reds. CONDITION is FAIR to GOOD: One small 1/4" hole, NO Moth nibbles/grazing, NO Fading, and NO Bleeding, ALL wool is sound (no rotting, brittle, deteriorating wool).
