Description BUAERO LEATHER M-445A WWII USN FLIGHT JACKET SIZE 36 A fine shearling jacket issued during WW II. Labor intense construction goes into every single flight jacket. Made of heavy sheepskin leather with goatskin diamond shaped elbow patches for reinforcement. Two patch type pockets are also of goatskin; zipper extends all the way to the top of the collar. double size sheepskin wind flap to minimize heat loss, underarm gussets and two adjustable side tabs provide extreme comfort of movement. Natural golden colored fleece, seal brown outer, heavy brass zipper (Darkened for Military Use) marked TALON and inside storm cuffs are 100% wool knit rib. The sweep of the jacket as well as the edge of the cuffs are clean trim with a binding of goatskin. Made of the highest quality sheepskin and goatskin obtainable in the world. This jacket has been previously worn but is still in great condition. Very little signs of wear and from the Estate of Peter Sterling Smith who graduated Annapolis in Class of 1942 and went on to be a Captain in US NAVY during World War II. In almost New Condition it had been hanging for decades and many wrinkles have smoothed over time. His M-444A Jacket was listed and sold last week, He had both jackets The small size (36) is consistent with many WWII flight jackets which were worn tight in small Cockpits, The M-445A is the Heavy Winter Jacket it is the US Navy version of the B-3 Jacket, even GI-Joe has one. I was hoping that the Doolittle Raiders used this Jacket but the only Raider Picture with the Jacket shows Captain Mitscher of the Hornet wearing one.
