Original, manuscript Navy order scheduling a court martial to be held on board the US Frigate United States on the following day, July 18, 1820, for the trial of a Navy seaman, and signed by Commodore Arthur Sinclair (1780-1831), at the time serving as Captain in charge of the Norfolk Station. Sinclair had served aboard the Essex in the Barbary War, but his most heroic feats were during the War of 1812 while in command of several ships of war. He captured a number of British ships and prizes and was promoted to Captain in 1813. His three sons served with distinction in the Confederate Navy during the Civil War..
