Newman ITALIAN PLEASURES Sheffield Lab16 DTD NM COVER IS VG++ W/ THE INSERT RECORD IS NM-DTD STEREO Michael Newman & The Sequoia String Quartet - ITALIAN PLEASURES Music from the Golden Age of Guitar - Sheffield LAB-16 Direct-to-Disc A notable Sheffield outing, and one of the finest guitar records out there, bar none .. . on par with the Fisk/Levinson, Bream/Rca, Vivaldi/Hungaraton. The Giuliani piece is quite stunning, and features Newman along with the Sequoia String Quartet, as they deliver INTRODUCTION, THEME, VARIATIONS AND POLONAISE, Op. 65. Followed by wonderful duo work on a Carulli piece, PETIT DUO NOCTURNE, with Newman and Laura Oltman delicately dancing their guitars. Plus, a solo of Newman's, the Luigi Legnani INTRODUCTION, THEME, VARIATIONS AND FINALE, Op. 64. Not your usual Direct-to-Disc fare; instead, it presents pluck and sweetness of strings, played by very competent artists very much in love with the music. If the LP has been played a couple of times, it can never be perfect. This is especially noticeable in classical records, which have quiet passages. I know there is software that you can use to clean up your records to record on CDs, if you so choose. You are buying vinyl LPs because they sound better than CDs, however the pops and crackling come with an LP. Ratings and Definitions of LP Conditions in order to avoid confusion: ALL TAS RECORDS ARE LISTENED TO ON MY EQUIPMENT WHICH IS A HIGH END TECHNICS TURNTABLE & CARTRIDGE WITH A SANSUI AMP. I DO TRY TO LISTEN TO SECTIONS OF ALL RECORDS, BUT SOMETIMES THEY ARE VISUALLY GRADED IF THEY LOOK REALLY CLEAN. Mint (M). Absolutely perfect in every way. Never been played or still sealed. I use this rating very sparingly – Cover must be in the shrink wrap for this grade. Some promo copies can get this grade since they originally were never in shrink wrap. Near Mint (NM). LP cover, inserts, e.g., lyrics sleeves, posters, promo cards, have no creases, folds, seam splits or other noticeable flaws. LP shows hardly any signs that it ever has been played or it has been treated with great respect, cover can be in shrink wrap unless it is a promo copy. Very Good Plus Plus (VG++). This LP may show some signs that it was played a few times or many times but the LP was treated with respect. LP surface may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches/hairlines that do not affect the overall listening experience. The cover may have some ring/spine wear and discoloration. Inner sleeves/booklets may have some slight wear. The LP cover may have also a cut-out hole, corner indentation not disturbing the overall condition of the LP itself. Can have a sticker or label attached if it is a promo copy. There will be pops and crackling in the quiet sections. Very Good Plus(VG+). Conditions as described in VG++ may be found in a more pronounced way on LP for this rating. Surface noise may be evident upon playing, especially in soft and other passages, but not overpowering the music. Wear may be noticeable. Scratches may affect the sound in places. The cover and the labels may show some writing, or have stickers or residue attached. Very Good (VG).
