This is a US Spanish American war Krag bayonet. It is marked with the US on one side of the blade and 1902 on the other. The 11.5in. blade is in very nice shape showing only minor pitting. It is one of the nicer blades I have seen on a krag bayonet. The handle is in solid shape and the lug catch button works. The picket pin scabbard came with the bayonet. I was told by a collector that sometimes the cavalry units used the picket pin scabbard instead of the issue scabbard. The leather of the scabbard is in pretty good shape. The straps do show light surface cracking. T is a small amount of white paint on the front lower part of the scabbard. Overall, the scabbard is in good shape for its age. The scabbard also held the horse picket pin that doubled as the handle for the early experimental entrenching tool. A great piece of history........
