This is an interesting French Fireman's Helmet which began its journey as a Cuirassier's Helmet, Circa 1830/40 and was later transformed for service as a Fireman's Helmet. It is constructed of an all metal body with brass fittings and is adorned with the French "flaming bomb" and the face of Medusa. This beautiful Helmet has survived very well with only minor staining and a couple of small surface rust spots to the metal. It has been mounted with Fireman style chinstraps as well as a chenille in place of the horsehair. Only a portion of the original leather liner is still present.
