N icholas Mosse SPONGEWARE POTTER TiNY PLATE & MUG DOG Spongeware does seem to be fast recognized as the new studio pottery collectable, with Bridgewater, Brixton, the Baughans, Hinchcliffe & Barber; all having their own particular fans. Less well known, probably because he’s Irish, but with equal skills and pots, is Nicholas Mosse. Nicholas Mosse is the foremost Irish spongeware potter and his work derives from his strong love of the country. His pottery is based on generous hand thrown forms and traditional sponge decorated patterns applied directly onto his locally made clay. This is a tiny plate & small mug but equally, could be a cup & saucer; decorated in a pattern called "DOG". Size, cup: 7cms tall, 7.5cms diameter. saucer: 12.5cms diameter. All hand made. New unused condition in original box which is rubbed to the corners. Transfer backstamp. A lovely piece of work from this highly acclaimed potter and a must have item for collectors of his pottery.
