Hi and thanks for stopping by... Please read entire description before purchasing. This is an actual, original, vintage, genuine, unaltered Nikkor f/8-8mm Fisheye lens (Ser. No. 88848) and has been mounted in a unique, lighted, lifesized recreation of the HAL 9000 computer faceplate "eye" as seen in the DVD of Arthur C. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick's classic 2001 a Space Odyssey , starring Kier Dullea and Gary Lockwood. The lens is quite used and has 2 or so pin prick size nicks which I was informed do not affect performance or imagery. It comes with the lens cap only. I cannot guarantee functionality of the lens, due to not having the correct type camera in which to test it. A same type lens (albeit in better, excellent condition) would sell for over $1000. The lens being offered is not a repro or mockup... It's an actual, 60's vintage Nikkor f8-8mm Fisheye lens. I am showing a picture of an example of the lens to show what it is, for reference only, but the lens being offered is a different one. I did not want to disassemble the piece for the auction. This is the same type and vintage lens Stanley Kubrick selected to represent the eye of HAL 9000, in 2001:a space odyssey for scenes in the film showing the complete faceplate. A different, larger type lens was used by Kubrick for close-ups of HAL's eye. The display box is a quick, rough, construction for prototype testing purposes and is in no way a fine finished piece. The box is actually a flat rate USPS Priority box, altered to accomodate the lens. (see photo) As stated, the lens is actually a vintage unaltered Nikkor f8 fish eye lens which has been fitted into a simple priority cardboard box, using remedial materials, foam core, tape etc, with a lifesize poster being the faceplate. As you can see, it is not constructed using aluminum frame pieces, etc. (see picture) The poster was taped to the box and the lens was affixed into it, in a rather make-shift fashion. (see photo) But it holds up nicely on the shelf. It is illuminated, safely, with an ad-hoc, low voltage LED light, wired and taped in position. But it is safe. Plugs into standard outlet. The vintage lens has colored filters built into it creating the red glow. I'm showing a pic of an example of a Nikkor fisheye in order to show exactly what the lens itself is, but this is not the actual offered lens, as I did not want to disassemble the piece. But this is the actual type, unaltered lens which is installed into the piece. I've also shown a reference picture demonstrating the type lens Kubrick selected to portray the computer eye faceplate. The back is unfinished, plain cardboard. The lens is a vintage Nikkor fisheye f-8 8mm lens. The lens itself is worth the price. A rare, affordable opportunity to obtain this rare, 8 mm lense. But it does have 2 or so pin nicks which I was informed does not affect performance or imagery. It comes with the lens cap only and is fitted in the box with the aluminum alloy lens metallic finish stepup ring included. This serves as the trim for HAL's eye. It is not signed or autographed for display purposes. The lens cap had been painted red on the outer area, supposedly that a former owner would not lose it. I've had this sitting on my book shelf unit and it's been a cool, lifesize artifact to fall gaze to above my computer screen. A great reference prototype for your HAL 9000 replica!
