Nine Lovely Flow Blue Dinner Plates ALBANY pattern by Johnson Bros. These flow blue porcelain dinner plates measures 9" in diameter. The pattern is ALBANY by Johnson Bros. ca 1900. The gently scalloped plates have floral, shell, and bead embossing around the edge. T are six large pointed cartouche forms connected around the border by stylized fleur-de-lis. The details are outlined in gilt. The center is a six-pointed snow flake. The plates are in good condition, with only small chips on the back of some of the plates, otherwise only normal wear and ceramic blimishes that come from plates over 100 years old. I have seven small plates of this pattern being listed on ebay. The color difference in the photo is from the flash of the camera, all are the white color. History of the Johnson Brothers: The four 'Johnson Brothers' were Alfred, Frederick, Henry and Robert (Grandsons of the famous Meakin lineage) - sons of Robert Johnson, master potter. Alfred and Frederick began production at the Charles Street works, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent in 1883.In 1888, Henry joined them. In addition to manufacturing well-potted white ware, they began producing under-glaze printed ware for which they became famous. Due to the increased demand for pottery after the Civil War in the US, they opened up two new factories in Hanley close to their original factory. read more
