EXCEPTIONALY UNIQUE & RARE . PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE STORY HIMALAYAN ICE CRYSTAL A.K.A. NIRVANA QUARTZ 3.25" X 2" X 1.15" 5.3 OZ / 150 GR THIS SPECIMEN IS SUBTLE PINK WITH TRACES RED COPPER ADHERED TO THE SURFACE PLACE OF BIRTH: KULU PASS, HIMALAYAS, NORTHERN INDIA Back in circa 600 AD, a Chinese pilgrim monk Xuanzang visited an area of Northern India now known as the Kullu Valley. He found a sacred site where Buddha preached to the locals and made conversions. He found 20 or so Buddhist Monasteries, some 15 Hindu temples and people of both faiths mixed and living together. It was a sacred place with thousands of “meditation caves” at the higher elevations. These two faiths pilgrimage ended in this fertile valley named Kulanthpitha which means “the end of the habitable world”, thus the name Kullu. Beyond this peaceful valley rose the foreboding heights of the Greater Himalayas High above this valley at 18000 feet is an area called Kullu Pass. Sitting at the base of the Himalayas, this pass has been covered by glacier ice for many millennia. Due to climate change, the glacier at Kullu Pass receded and perhaps for the first time in human history, our earth revealed to us the existence of these ancient and unique quartz crystals. These new pink or clear crystals with a frosted appearance are best described as “Growth Interference Quartz”. Growth interference crystals are created when calcite or other mineral formations adhere to the crystallizing quartz formation, and then disappear over time. This results in the creation of geometric indentations, grooves, pyramids and other irregularities along the prismatic faces of the quartz crystal. Kullu Valley is known for its rich red copper deposits which may account for the pink color in about half of these quartzes. We know from the above facts the reason for the name Himalayan Ice Quartz and Kullu Quartz. Other names like Tibetan and Nepalese comes from the crystals physical proximity to these well known locations. The Nirvana Crystal name comes from the Hindu belief that the liberation of the Soul from the effects of Karma and physical existence and also a sense or state of releasing all that is now behind you, is a state of Nirvana.
