NORITAKE 2600TH ANNIVERSARY OF JAPAN PLATE - RAILWAYS This auction is for a very interesting plate. The commemoration of Japan's 2600th anniversary in 1940 was a project to commemorate the enthronement of the first emperor, Jinmu Tenno at the Kashihara-no-Miya palace. To be held during the year in 1940, many lavish events and projects were planned. This was to be the largest social event of prewar Japan. Japan hoped with this celebration to move from the depression to have Japan become a first rate country of the world in both respects, both socially and economically. This information comes from "The Historical Society of Japan" found http://ci.nii.ac.jp/naid/110002361746/en/. This beautiful plate measures 9 7/8" across. In a blue/gray is a depiction of Mt. Fujiama perhaps and Cherry Blossoms. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. It does have the hanging holes in the bottom ring. The plate was produced by the "Royal Crockery", Noritake. It's backstamp is #7, Nippon Toki Kaisha, Japan. And is also marked, in green, "The 2600th Anniversary of Japan, Board of Tourist Industry, Japanese Government Railways". I do not use Ebay Checkout.
