North Carolina CHROME REDPinched VASE w/HANDLEThisVintage CHROME RED Pinched VASE with an applied HANDLEweighs1.9 pounds before being packaged. It was probably made by one of the Owens, perhaps Melvin or J.B. It does have some age on it.Seagrove is notable for its many potteries, and is sometimes referred to as the "Pottery capital of North Carolina" or the "Pottery capital of the World". In this usage , the name 'Seagrove' not only refers to the townproper, but also includes several other communities that are part of the pottery tradition along and near the "North Carolina Pottery Highway (NC-705). Over 100 potteries are located in Seagrove, and the neighboring towns ofWhynot, Star, Erect, Westmoore, Happy Hollow and Robbins. Seagrove is also home to the North Carolina Pottery Center, which was established in 1998and has since received visitors from across the continent and around the world.The vase measures approximately 3 1/2" across the bottom, 8 3/4" wide across the top rim, 3 1/4" across at the pinched in handle, 6" tall to vase rim and 10" to top of handle. It has 3 chips on the bottom base and has been spattered with s bit of gold paint that blends in with the darker drippings over the orange glaze. It is still in good to very good condition.
