A nice First Edition set of these two large, thick and heavy books, containing many papers and articles on the indigenous peoples of northern North America. With many maps, including a large folding map. Published more than 35 years ago, this set of books is now long out of print and very scarce, usually selling for between $80 and $100. Such a nice set of these books is not likely to come up for sale again soon on ebay. From the Introduction: "The first Northern Athapaskan Conference, sponsored by the National Museum of Man, National Museums of Canada, in Ottawa, March 18-20, 1971, was the fifth major Ethnology Division Conference. The first was concerned with ethnology in museums, the second with Algonkian linguistics, the third with band societies, and the forth with cultural ecology. This, the fifty in the series, provided an opportunity for seventeen scholars to meet, discuss current research and make future plans for investigation among the Northern Athapaskan tribes of Alaska and Canada.
