This item has been in my family since it was new, when it was given to my Dad who was a Northrop executive. The F-5G was the designation given to an improved version of the F-5E Tiger II to be offered to the export market. The nose was flattened slightly and rounded to enhance stability, which made its nose look somewhat like a shark, thus the name Tigershark. The maiden flight of the Tigershark was on Aug. 30, 1982 . In November of 1982, the F-5G was redesignated the F-20A.
