Ready to add to you quality collection is this wonderful 2 Gallon Decorated Salt Glaze Jug stamped NORTON & FENTON, East Bennington, Vt. This is the mark of Julius Norton and his brother-in-law, Christopher Fenton who were partners in the Norton pottery from 1844-1847. This beauty sports a clear maker's mark and a superb Triple Floral in Rich Cobalt Blue . The floral is done with fine brushwork. The jug also has a ribbed effect aroud the outside. It was wrapped in cheese cloth as it dried before it was fired in the kiln and the cloth marks are still on the jug. Stands 13" tall. Excellent Condition. Three minor flakes on the spout--1/8" and 3/16" on the left side and a narrow 1/4" flake on the very top. The 1/4 flake on the right side was in the making and is glazed over. Some staining from use.
