RARE C&O RR HOMESTEAD Hotel ~NATURE STUDY~ ASHTRAY Up for auction is a EXTREMELY-EXTREMELY RARE Ashtray with a match holder in the Nature Studies Poppies series manufactured by Syracuse China & made for the Homestead Hotel in Hot Springs, Virginia. This is the first ashtray I have ever seen. Normally you only find plates from this series, I have only ever seen one other piece besides plates and that is the Casserole dish listed in the the Syracuse China book. The last picture shows this.The Homestead was owned & operated by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad & many travelers on the C&O Railway would stay at this grand hotel & dine in their fine dining rooms. This great, colorful ashtray measures 5 1/2" across. Syracuse China produced a series of 40 different Nature Studies designs by listed artist H.G. Aitken.GREAT condition with no chips or cracks. Only very light use marks. Displays great!!! This would make a great addition to any Syracuse China Nature Study plate collection, C&O Railroad Dining Car / Homestead Hotel china or State of Virginia collectibles collection.
