This auction is for: Rare VolumeBound Newspapers San Francisco Chronicle October 1922 This great oversize volume begins Sunday the 1stand ends on Tuesday the 31st, 1922. It has sturdy black cloth boards with gilt titles to spine, and oncebelonged to the Oakland Free Library.Great nostalgic volume with five days removed:Sun 8th, Wed 11th, Sat 21st, Fri 27th, Sun 29th,leaving an archive of 26 bound newspapers.In the 1922 World Series , the NY Giants beat the NY Yankees in five games.As with the 1921 World Series, every game was played at the Polo Groundssince it housed both teams, with the home team alternating. Games were playedon the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th ~ with results coming out the following day.In this nest of papers you will get some really great material from the Series,but it's not complete in all instances. The 8th paper is missing -therefore you miss the results from the 7th. The 7 th paper has a cut-outfrom the sports section involving the Series. There's another cut-out on the 4thnot affecting the results, another on the 14th ~ plus there may be other occasionalsports cut-outs farther into the volume.There's also Pacific League Baseball coverage, and Football coveragewith the U.S.C. Trojans, UC Berkeley Golden Bears, and others.Other volume highlights include a shot of "Siki", a French Boxerfrom Senegal, and a Big Horse Show is held in the city.Though two Sundays have been removed, three Sundays remain.These three Sundays have great magazine sections at front. One has a Dan Smithillustration and one is Halloween inspired. All three Sundays still have their Rotogravure sections too. Unfortunately two of the tree have had cut-outs froma single page that have damaged adjoining pages...but you still glimpsegreat material like Zeigfeld Follies Beauties & etc. On the back page ofthe magazine section there's an ongoing series of Wonderful Stories From "OZ", published posthumously after L. Frank Baum's death. So, a great group of papers with the occasional cut-outfrom either theatre or sports and with five days removed.Boards/Spine Very Good. Text Block stitching cut in places to remove papers.
