Odachi / Nodachi Japanese Foot Soldier Long Sword black As foot soldiers became important in battle, a very long sword was created for their use. This blade was said to be able to cut a man and horse in half. The Great sword (Odachi), or Field sword (Nodachi), were oversized swords made in the more common, Katana form. In all respects they are the same, except in their greater length.Once this sword became illegal, they were either shortened to the normal, Katana length, or used as ceremonial swords. They were used as an offering to the shrine or gods; dedicated towards the winning of a war, or as legendary swords of the gods.Our version of this rare and magnificent sword is a full 72" tall with a blade 52" long. The blade is carbon steel, with a groove to lighten the blade. Sheath is wood, lacquered in black on black. Handle is wrapped in the traditional manner with black cord over ray skin seme. Sword furniture is blackened bronze in a snake motif. This is a hand made sword, hand tempered with traditional fittings and assembly, total quality. Comes with a very nice sword storage bag and a custom gift box. The box is a reusable storage container with metal latches.
