Antique Brown Stoneware One-handled Pottery Pitcher or Jug. This Utilitarian Piece is 7 & 1/2" tall and the base diameter is 4 & 1/4" across (the center of the pitcher, w it flares out, is approximately 5 & 3/4" wide.) This is a heavy piece, weighing 2 lbs 7 oz. It has a wonderful textured surface with pops in the glaze, and a large area just to the left of the spout, all the way to the bottom of the piece, of a glaze miss or skip...the area w the glaze missed is rough to the touch (see photo # 2.) This area adds a lot of character to the piece, showing its age and crudeness. The bottom of the piece is unglazed and unsigned. T is also a very interesting three inch long spot on the base edge that looks like tiny pieces of grey rock material, and under magnification, you can see w the glaze ran onto this area (this spot is exactly under the area of the miss or skipped glaze spot on the side of the pitcher. This piece is in good condition for its' age. It has a very tiny bump on the top lip that has glaze over it, so it was t when the pitcher was made. It also has a less then 1/4" long wavy line next to the spout which runs over the top edge w the piece has no glaze. This is listed for accuracy, but it is extremely minor and barely noticeable, I didn't even see it until I looked at the piece with a magnifying glass. This piece is in read more
