You Definitely won't see too many of these with a complete scabbard including the top brass, the drag (brass) and all leather, and all in one piece. T are some splits and cracks in the leather, but is is all intact. The bayonet, the scabbard and all parts are marked "WD". Ther is also proof marks (crown, R, numbers)and a number 479. The blade and all hardware is in great condition, no rust or pitting. Measures 25 3/4 inches overall. Also it is dated 1889. The Martini Henry rifle was issued to British troops who were sent to South Africa in 1879 for the Zulu War. The Martini Henry was made famous by the defeat of the British Army of the 24th Foot at Isandhlwana on 22nd January 1879 and the famous battle of Rorkes Drift later that same day. In this later action 11 VC were awarded to the 104 fighting officers and men who defended the mission station against overwhelming odds using this rifle. SEE PICTURES!!
