This sword is relisted due to the previous winner not paying. This sword is sold on behalf of my elderly neighbor. After WWII, he served in Japan and before being sent back to the U.S.A., he went to the local warehouse that stored confiscated weapons and got this one. I know nothing about Japanese weapons and all the information comes from my neighbor's inquiries about this sword. Overall length of the blade is 33.5" of which 7" is the tang. The tang is unsigned, has one hole and is covered with deep brown patination. No red rust. The blade is very meaty, 1.25" wide at the base and .25" thick at the base. It is obviously hand made. It is stained in some places and has minute pitting. Obviously, it would benefit from a professional polish to reveal it's full beauty. My neighbor was told that the blade was several hundred years old.The tsuba is all iron, hand made in a form of a wheel.The handle is covered with some old, patterened cloth and has metal fittings. The scabbard is covered with leather and has a button at the top to secure the sword. One of the most interesting parts about it is that sword carries with it a wooden surrender tag. It is signed on one side "Aichi Perfecture. Handa City. Nanko Village 7-1 Iwahashi Aichi" and on the other side, "Iwahashi Akinori Iwahashi Yasto".
