You are bidding on a great old Mexican pottery bank in the form of a bull, from a Denver estate. This type of pottery was made at Santa Cruz de las Huertas, mostly from the 1940s through the 1970s. This bank has never been used. It is in excellent condition. Due to age, some of the old varnish has worn or flaked off. One ear may have a chip, or it may have been fired that way, since t is old paint over the chip. This is in the style of Julian Acero (who taught Candelario Medrano). We don't know if he actually made this piece or not. Clay, varnish, finish etc., indicate that this piece is old, maybe dating to the 1940s. Colors and varnish are darker than photos. This piece measures about 6" X 4" X 2". Very similar pieces with the same color and varnish treatment may be seen on pages 106 and 107, of Ceramica, Mexican Pottery of the 20th Century. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding on this great old example of Mexican folk art.
