Rare Mexican Pottery Tile Scene of an Adventurer and a Local character with his dog, possibly a wolfhound. The tile features colorful costumes and great detail in the faces. It may also be Don Quixote of La Mancha and his colorful squire Sancho. The twelve tile panel measures approximately 22 inches tall and approximately 16 inches wide. Each tile is 5 1/2 inches square and approx 7/16 thick. One tile of this twelve tile panel has a convex curve to it, but it still blends in very nicely with the other tiles. You will notice some red clay showing on the edges on some of the tiles. These are mostly glaze misses that must have occurred during firing although a few of them may be small chips. Still it lends a sense of folk art authenticity to the panel. I think I can safely say that this panel has never been mounted, as t is no evidence of grout on the backs of the tiles. The backs of the tiles are red clay with no pattern or marking. However, the bottom right corner tile has a "Y" superimposed on a "U" followed by a colon. This is the signature of Ysauro Uriarte. None of these tiles are cracked and all of the corners are intact, so I will package these with extra care so that they will arrive at your home in good condition. I can assure you that the vibrant colors in this panel are even better in person than they are in my pictures. read more
