Antique Coal Miners MSA Comfo Cap Low Vein Vintage Mining Hard Hat with Matching Brass Miner's Carbide Lamp ! Original from the Pennsylvania Mining Fields Two antique pieces for sale at once!! The lamp ("Auto Lite") fits into slot in front of hat as shown. I believe the brass carbide lamp still works if fuel is added (the on and off switch turns fine as does the igniter). The lamp was made in the USA (Springfield, IL as inscribed on bottom). This old antique hat and matching carbide brass lamp are probably from the 1920's (not sure exactly). I understand "low vein hats"are distinguished when the name on the front of the hat ("MSA Compo Cap") is directly behind the lamp and below the lamp slot. (The antique hat is in very good condition considering its age with some small dings and one bruise about an inch long (I don't see any cracks) and other signs of wear and tear from the underground mines (please check the enlarged pictures closely). It has the liner that is worn but intact as shown in the picture. Leather rope on outside of hat is in fair condition as shown. It is about 8 inches wide and 11 inches long.
