~**~ ANTIQUE CHILDRENS CLOTHESPINS~**~~*~ IN MINI TURNED WOOD BARREL ~*~~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ This Wonderful and Rare Antique turned wood barrel with Children's Clothes Pins tucked inside is a truly wonderful example of Laundry History ....and how it even made it's way right into the hands of a child.....following in Mom's footsteps.... I have collected Antique and Vintage Laundry Room articles for over 20 yrs now ...as many of you already know...I once had an extensive clothespin collection .....I am still finding some really wonderful odd ones as I go through boxes and this week I found these...This is a Rare find and it is in excellent condition and is complete....These were a hard set to give up...But I know one of you will truly appreciate them ....as much as I have .... T are (12) wood clothespins.....each in the wood turned round head slide on style .....Just like Mom's would have been ....!!! these are Extremely tiny and must have been taken care of very well ...as they are in PRISTINE condition....Each of them appears to be slightly different in size as it must have been a great difficulty to turn them so small....Also they are in a wonderful red-orange tint ...... The barrel is quite a marvel too ....It has also been turned and and has a ribbed top and bottom ...and you can still see the round turn marks inside and outside the lid .... Each tiny clothespin is Positively sweet and the barrel is qute charming ...this set is ever so fitting to add to your Laundry collection... Each of the clothespins measure: 1-3/8 inches long ..AND the barrel measures: 2-2/16 inches tall x 1-2/8 inches in diameter at the center(fattest) part of the barrel ......The set is in Excellent condition and I would gather they are from the early 1900s These look great displayed with a whole clothes pin collection and with other laundry related items ..... ...They are quite wonderful and add that primitive touch to your laundry .....and are qutie Unique as well ...PLEASE NOTE: the last picture I have provided is a fun sneek peek at many of the other items I have listed ...so be sure to take a minute and browse my other listings ...You may find a gem you just can't live without !!! Train past Port Deposit Station The incredible tale of How a Clothespin Stopped a Train research by Al Bruno You have probably heard this tale as a child and just never knew w it came from, well it happen in the early spring of 1905 along the Susquehanna River in Port Deposit, Maryland. The local train station master had a daughter, who happened to have a fancy for the train conductor who handled the 4:00 PM train into the Port Deposit Station. This particular day was exceptionally warm and had melted vast amounts of snow that had been collecting from around mid-March. Now high water had filled the street by 2:00 PM. By 3:00 PM an alert went out for all able hands to help evacuate those people trapped out to higher ground. About this time the daughter thought of her beau coming in to Port and wanted to warn him of potential disaster. So took the keys to her fathers Jalopy and drove north to try and meet the train outside of town. As the train was coming close, she thought of a way to signal danger. In the back of the rumble seat was a clothespin bag. She grabbed a clothespin and turned on the vehicles gas head lamp.
