H ere is a very fine VINTAGE 1950s ladies wristwatch marked 14k gold, Swiss, that has a fabulous and beautifully engraved inscription on the back of the case commemorating the 1956 National League championship of baseball's Brooklyn Dodgers. Very good clean condition, both hands intact , clean crystal, but the wind-up mechanism is not presently running, probably a very simple fix or cleaning required. The leather band appears original and is worn but intact if not a little twisted. I have used a half dollar coin for size comparison. This must have been a very special gift from one excited Dodgers fan to another!
I wonder if this belonged to the wife or relative of a player on the team or some woman in the Brooklyn organization based at Ebbetts Field. A great unique item! 1956 was a hugely historic year in baseball for New York and Brooklyn. Major League owners voted to establish the Cy Young Memorial Award for outstanding pitcher of the year. Don Newcombe of the Brooklyn Dodgers became the first recipient and also went on to win the National League Most Valuable Player title. Also, the Yankees Don Larsen threw the first and only world series perfect game this year, against the Dodgers. Shipping is first class mail for $2.50 in the US, $6 outside of the US. Insurance optional. Thanks for looking, write with questions, good luck bidding. Please use the supersize feature on the photographs below for closer inspection. Please see my other auction ending on February 2nd, Jackie Robinson's autobiography, a first edition book.
