Rare OPEN PONTIL Labeled LOUIS BECKERS ROTTEN STONE DAG CHEMICAL BOTTLE NR NO RESERVE!!! Fresh from a Maine home, we are pleased to offer this RARE and EARLY open pontil paper labeled daguerreotypist bottle. The label reads "ROTTEN STONE - PREPARED BY LOUIS BECKERS, PRACTICAL CHEMIST - NO. 56 NORTH FIFTH STREET, PHILAD'A". Rotten Stone was a soft material resulting from the decomposition of siliceous limestone. The daguerreotypist would use this chemical to scour and polish the surface of a plate to remove imperfections prior to taking the exposure. In 1843 Louis Beckers was among the FIRST to manufacture this and other dagurreotype chemicals exclusively. The incredibly THIN bottle features a rolled lip, sloping shoulders and an open pontil. Overall the bottle stands 5'' tall x 2 3/4'' at its widest. CONDITION: The bottle is in OUTSTANDING original condition having NO chips or cracks. Guaranteed HONEST, OLD and MARKET FRESH! WE ARE HAPPY TO COMBINE SHIPPING ON ALL MULTIPLE PURCHASES! ALL MAINE BUYERS are responsible for 5% Maine State Sales Tax, unless you fax or enclose a current and valid copy of your Maine Resale License along with your payment. Thanks and
