From the FZ CollectionNO RESERVE on this item. This is an 8"x10" photo of Placido Domingo in one of his most famous roles, Otello. The costume in this photo is the one worn in performance at San Francisco Opera. FZ bought the photo (unsigned) t in 1980. Mr. Domingo signed it for him on March 20, 1982 after a performance of Tales of Hoffmann. It is one of the most effective pictures around of Domingo in this role. The signature is in the broad white inkstroke which is not everyone's favorite but which has the virtue of being highly visible on a dark background such as this one.The "FZ" Collection consists of opera memorabilia gatd by one of my closest friends over almost 50 years of opera-going. We met at Korvette's in 1963 at one of the Monday/Tuesday Opera LP sales they used to have and have been friends ever since. "FZ" (not the real initials) frequented stage doors, dressing rooms, Lincoln Center auctions and other venues (as well as using, successfully, mail to artists requesting signing) to achieve a collection the scope of which (when I finally began going through his files with him) surprised even me. He has decided to begin the process of divesting himself of this collection and has asked me to begin selling it for him.
