For your consideration are these two hammers from the ATHA Tool Company. The ATHA Tool Company operated in Newark New Jersey from 1884 to 1913 when they were bought by the Stanley Rule and Level Company.ATHA was known for blacksmithing tools as well as railroad and mining tools. Here is a brief description of each hammer:1.) The larger hammer has an interesting double faced "barrel" shaped head. The head is marked with the ATHA mark which is an "A" in a horseshoe. The head is also marked with a "6" which I assume represents 6 pounds and I confirmed that on my scale. Overall length of the hammer is about 14 inches. Distance from striking face to striking face is about 5 inches. Diameter of striking face is about 2 1/4 inch. I made a handle for this hammer from a broken sledge hammer handle. I have rubbed some boiled linseed oil into the handle. The handle is firmly affixed to the hammer head. The hammer head has a few chips to the perimeter of the striking faces. (See photos)2.) The second or smaller hammer is of cross peen design. This hammer also has the ATHA logo and a "2" and something else maybe a "1/2"? The hammer weighs about 3 pounds with handle. I made a handle for this hammer as well from the same broken sledge hammer handle as above. Overall length of this hammer is about 11 1/2 inches. Distance from striking face to peen read more
