RARE original DIXIE illustrated southern trade journal, dated December, 1892. COMPLETE in 108 pgs, 4to (11 1/4” x 9”). . Featured in this issue is the THREE (3) page long illustrated article "COAL MINING IN THE JELLICO DISTRICT" (Jellico, TN) containing THREE (3) original photo image views: JELLICO MOUNTAIN COAL AND COKE COMPANY (2 1/4" X 3 1/2"), "THE FIRST OPENING IN JELLICO MOUNTAIN" (5" X 7"), and "AT THE 'OPENINGS'" (3" X 7").A sample of the article reads, "In the spring of 1881 the contracts were let for the completion of the Knoxville banks of the Louisville & Nashville railroad, to the State line, Jellico, Tennessee, at which point the East Tennessee, Virginia & Georgia railroad had agreed to connect with their Knoxville & Ohio branch from Caryville, Tennessee. The extension of these two lines of road penetrated the rich coal fields of south-eastern Kentucky and East Tennessee, and in June, 1881, the writer, in company with Capt. P.C. Kidd, of Lexington, Kentucky, decided to visit the mountain section along the line of the new road then being built.
