[Attributed toRobert Wilkinson.] A New Map of North America, agreeable to the Latest Discoveries. [?London: ?Robert Wilkinson, no date but circa.1790-94]. Copper-engraved map (image area 8 5/8 x 9 inches; sheet size: 9 ½ x 9 ¾ inches), hand-colored (probably early). Condition: laid down onto thick card, light matt burn, signs of old folds (see image). North America in the last decade of the 18th century, with a number of interesting features. The United States is named; the Missouri River is marked as being "Navigable 1300 Miles"; the "River of the West" extends from the Oregon coast nearly to the headwaters of the Mississippi, with a short "Portage" indicated; and there are numerous rivers and mountain ranges shown. This map seems to match that published by Wilkinson and engraved by T. Conder (see Wheat, Transmississippi , 230; Phillips Maps p.594), but there is no imprint or engraver listed.
